The weather is finally turning colder and the days are now shorter than nights. Fall is in full swing! Our house is coming along and as of the last few days we have had drywall! I’ve been eager to post updated pics on this. Unfortunately, I’ve been laid up for a few days with a terrible cold, which has kept me on the couch. That’s meant having to turn on the virtual babysitter more than I like. And the music of Disney Junior is getting stuck in my head like no other. (Pup-pup-puppy dog PAAAALLLSSS….) But now that I’ve had to watch several episodes of the newest cartoons I have noticed something….I really am getting old.
Catch up on part one of Building Our New Home in part 1 over here!
Where is this coming from, you wonder? Okay, how many of us remember the cartoons of our youth? This might vary from generation to generation but as Gen Y (since Millennial seems to be such a dirty word anymore) I grew up with Sesame Street, Arthur, Doug, Rocko’s Modern Life, Rugrats, etc. And in terms of technology in those shows I remember a cordless phone and a big bulky computer.
This week I saw a Puppy Pal’s episode featuring FaceTime and photos on a smart phone, Vampirina helping get likes for a Vlog, and a Bluey episode that specifically focused on spending too much time on a tablet.
Yep, I feel old. I guess this is the part where I raise my spiked apple cider and hope one day M watches her kid’s cartoons and remarks on how she didn’t remember cars driving themselves Puppy Dog Pals.
End of tangent. Let’s get back to primary purpose of this post. THE HOUSE.

Building a house is exhausting, trust me. I’ve done it twice. But in every build there are a couple of points where things get really exciting, like progress is really happening. Here’s a rundown on ours:
- Digging the Hole – July 4, 2019
- Framing goes up – August 8, 2019
- DRYWALL – October 4 2019
Oh, yes. DRYWALL. The stuff that takes a house from a skeleton of wood, wires and pipes to an actual living space. Now that ours is in the house is really starting to come together.
Sure beats a messy wooden frame, right? I took lots of photos to show all of you with my new iPhone Pro Max camera. The wide angle lens is a fantastic edition that really made it easy to capture house. If you’ve been waiting to upgrade your phone and want to always have access to a great camera, I highly recommend one of these!
This is our future great room and gourmet kitchen with an attached breakfast room. The center wall there will have a huge island with a farmhouse sink! I think’s this one by Kohler. I know the color name is biscuit to match our antique white cabinets.
Over here is where we’re going to put my open office/studio. This open space is technically designated to be a dinning room but I think an office/studio is better use of the space. This will enable me to work with easy access to the kitchen and to M playing in the living space. In our previous home the study was tucked away but that didn’t seem to work for me. I guess I need to be where everyone else is. I’m so looking forward to decorating this space!
And then we have our on suite and master bedroom. I can’t believe how big the bathroom is! Even with the cabinets still needing to be installed it’s a huge space. And the soaking tub… I’ve not been able to relax in a big tub since moving out at the end of June. I told my husband that I may not get it for hours on our first night.
The last of the spackling, sanding and ceiling stamping should be done this week. At this point it’s pretty reliably about 8 weeks until closing, which should put us in our home just after Thanksgiving. I’ll post the moving in pictures around that time so be sure to look out for them!
